Our North Devon property is in the charming village of Appledore, steeped in maritime history, and nestled at the mouth of the River Torridge. Our luxury cottage is a beautifully renovated old fisherman’s terrace on a street famed for its uniquely pastel-coloured houses.
This is your ‘home from home’ offering a stylish space of comfort, charm and luxury and with glorious sea views across the estuary and sandy beaches nearby. This truly is a special place to be whether you just want to wind down and relax or explore and have some fun.
The Space
When you step through the blue door of our pretty pink cottage, you are greeted with a home that has been stylishly decorated to offer maximum comfort.
A perfect place for those who like their space filled with beautiful things. Dream by the Water makes you feel at ease from the moment you walk in.
You’ll find all the amenities you need in our high spec, hand built kitchen, including a pink Lacanche cooker (yes we like pink), Nespresso machine, wine cooler, Smeg toaster and kettle, dishwasher, washing machine and large fridge freezer. But if food preparation isn’t your thing there are plenty of highly recommended restaurants or takeaways within walking distance too.
The open plan dining and lounge area is decorated with muted tones to soothe your senses. Enjoy a romantic meal or a fun gathering with friends.
Moving through to the lounge area the large Loaf sofa (handmade by craftsman) adds maximum comfort so you can spend a cosy evening in front of the fire (a no fuss modern electric fire with realistic flames). Or if you fancy just kicking back and watching a movie, there is a large wall mounted digital TV that has all the usual apps, including Netflix. Free WiFi is available throughout the property and high quality music speakers can be found throughout the house too so you can enjoy your music downstairs and in the master suite.
They say that the best view is one you don’t usually see – the glass doors at the far end of the lounge area open out onto a small patio which offers a dramatic panorama across one of deepest estuaries in England; it’s hard not be captivated by the constantly changing tides. Whether during sunset hours with a glass of wine in hand or peaceful early morning moments where there are no other distractions but nature herself.
Take the stairs to the first floor where you will find a small double bedroom overlooking the narrow street and coloured houses. This is Jack’s room (no, we don’t have a permanent live-in guest) but it’s so called because of the Union Jack theme!
Across the hall opposite Jack’s room is another double bedroom. This tastefully stylish seascape themed room boasts a handcrafted Loaf bed with more fabulous views across the estuary.
Also on this first floor is a spacious shower room that continues the nautical theme with plush pebble flooring, and an elegant gold and navy colour scheme. There is a large sink and toilet and a high-quality power shower.
Carrying on up the staircase you will find stylish master bedroom suite on the top floor, a perfect space for sleep or romance. The large windows maximise the stunning views of the water and beyond. The large handcrafted Loaf bed is seriously comfy, with an Emma mattress and White Company topper.
Every dream home should have a special feature and ours is the Witt & Berg Copper-Free Standing Bath which we absolutely love, it’s our little bit of indulgence. It sits under a large window in the open-plan master bedroom suite and taking deep luxurious soaks in it when it’s full of bubbles is just pure bliss!

The Location
Appledore is a picturesque fishing village in North Devon with an estuary where the Taw and Torridge rivers meet. It is close to many beautiful beaches and is rich in history and culture.
The village can trace its origin back to the 9th century and its name may even come from the Saxon word, meaning apple tree. Evidence suggests the settlement was raided in 878 by the Vikings.
Appledore continued to grow and thrive and became an important maritime port. It was awarded free port status by Queen Elizabeth 1st in recognition of the part it played in repelling the Spanish Armada in 1666.
The quay was constructed in 1845 and the shipyard was founded in 1855, and this is where many famous ships and replicas were built, including Francis Drake’s famous Golden Hind, which is on display docked in London.
You can see fishing and pleasure boats at the quay and there is a lifeboat station. You can catch the ferry from there to take you across to Instow for a walk along the lovely beach. Just be sure to check the timetable first.
Appledore has a 19th century church, a good range of local shops, galleries, cafes and restaurants, historic pubs and inns and is home to the Maritime Museum.
You can’t leave the area without trying the delicious Hockins ice cream, which has been produced and served in the village since 1936.
